SLF is the only free education event in Scotland welcoming thousands of educational professionals with more than 150 exhibitors. The theme of this year’s event focuses on promoting excellence and equity for all and features keynotes from Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills John Swinney MSP and renowned educationalist Steve Munby.
SLF also brings you professional learning seminars where you can engage in activities and learn from practitioners and young people, as well as opportunities for debate and discussions on the Scottish Attainment Challenge, the Governance Review and the National Improvement Framework.

Thursday at #SLF17: Professional learning seminars from SCEL
Empowering teachers as leaders of classroom practice 10.45 – 11.30
The SCEL Teacher Leadership Programme was first facilitated as a prototype cohort in the 2016/7 session. As well as participating and supporting, the teachers involved have played a significant role in co-evolving the programme approach together. In addition to hearing the rationale and approach taken by SCEL, as part of this seminar you will hear from teachers who have participated in and supported the prototype programme and learn how their involvement impacted upon them and their learners.
Building the professional capacity of leaders in Early Learning and Childcare 12.00 – 12.45
This seminar explores approaches to building professional capacity of leaders in Early Learning and Childcare. Hosted jointly by Education Scotland, The Scottish Social Services Council and The Scottish College for Educational Leadership, participants will be offered support and advice from the perspective of each organisation. Participants will also review a range of professional learning approaches and case examples of the positive impact of professional learning.
Preparation for Headship and the Early Phase of Headship 13.15 – 14.00
Preparation for headship and the early phase of headship present unique challenges and opportunities for professional learning. This workshop will explore how SCEL are working with key partners to provide effective professional learning to support these key career phases. During this session, we will explore the key themes of headship preparation and the early phase of headship and will be delivered by SCEL and key partners. It will explore the impact that into headship has had on participants, their schools and the young people they serve. The workshop will be of particular interest to those considering headship as their next career step, those who are currently in the early phase of headship and those who support aspiring and new head teachers.
