New resource for middle leaders: Into Middle Leadership in Schools

The Scottish College for Educational Leadership is delighted to offer a new resource designed to assist and enhance the professional learning of middle leaders in Scottish education.

Into Middle Leadership in Schools has been developed by former head teacher and education consultant Dick Lynas based on his experience of delivering professional learning for leaders in education. The resource is designed to support demonstrable improvement in the quality of learning, teaching and attainment, as well as enhance overall leadership capacity in schools.

Into Middle Leadership in Schools is for:

  • classroom teachers who are interested in learning about the functions and qualities that are called for from middle leaders in schools
  • teachers who have been appointed to an acting middle leadership role
  • serving middle leaders who wish to refresh their skills and
  • Local authority and school professional learning coordinators who are keen to promote a collaborative approach in and across schools to develop the knowledge, skills and values of aspiring middle leaders

The resource can be used in part, or whole by individuals or used by schools, clusters or local authorities to deliver a collaborative programme or to inform existing programmes. It reflects the model for professional learning and encourages individual and collaborative learning with a focus on achieving outcomes through leading a team of colleagues.

Into Middle Leadership in Schools will help aspiring middle leaders to deepen their levels of commitment to the values of middle leaders and enhance their ability to critically reflect and enquire to develop their middle leadership and management practice.
