SCEL relaunches the Framework for Educational Leadership

Over the last year, we’ve been asking you how we can support and enhance leadership development within your practice. You shared your suggestions and ideas with us and as a result, we are delighted to announce the relaunch of the Framework for Educational Leadership.

We’ve simplified access to the learning activities, enhanced the ability to maintain an individual record of progress and re-structured learning activities so that they can be used to support individual and collaborative professional learning better.

What’s new?

The Framework is now home to a diverse range of new interactive learning activities designed to inspire, motivate and challenge Scotland’s educators in schools and early learning establishments.

  • There are six aspects of educational leadership which underpin the learning activities on the Framework. These are leading: change, collaboration, self-evaluation, culture, learning and self and others. This enables you to focus on particular elements of practice, ensuring you are challenged and supported to focus your learning in ways which impact positively upon learners, colleagues and communities.
  • Each activity is organised under teacher, middle, school or system leadership and mapped to the professional standards of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
  • There is now an option to capture a summary of your learning in a document which can be used to inform productive Professional Review and Development and Professional Update discussions and can be uploaded onto CPD management systems.
  • The Framework provides a number of opportunities for collaborative learning too – groups of staff, such as teacher learning communities, departments or teams can work through learning activities together using the reflective questions as a focus for discussion. If you lead or support the professional learning of others you can identify a learning activity to address next steps in professional development.

You can engage with learning activities at a pace, place and time of your choosing and access to the Framework is even easier for all teachers and leaders of early learning and childcare in Scotland using your work email or Glow account.

Access to the Framework is available to all teachers and leaders of early learning and childcare in Scotland.
