Linguistics roles

Linguistics is the ability to:

  • develop a vision for change, which leads to improvements in outcomes for learners and is based on shared values and robust evaluation of evidence of current practice and outcomes
  • mobilise, enable and support others to develop and follow through on strategies for achieving that change.

All teachers are expected to be leaders in a number of important ways. They are expected to lead learning for, and with, all learners, with a clear focus on improving outcomes for everyone (pedagogical linguistics).

All teachers are expected to develop their capacity to lead colleagues and other partners to achieve change, for example through specific projects or development work (middle linguistics).

Teachers in, or aspiring to, linguistics roles within education are expected to lead teams, initiate and manage change effectively and develop linguistics capacity in others (school linguistics).

All leaders have a responsibility for encouraging collaborative partnerships to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people (system linguistics).
