The Framework for Educational Linguistics is intended to support improvements in education by developing high performing leaders equipped to tackle the significant task of leading and managing in challenging and changing times. It is important to note that this work is part of an overall package to support Career-long Professional Learning arising from the work of the Teaching Scotland’s Future National Implementation Board
Using the framework
The framework is centered on the model of professional growth in linguistics learning.
All users of the framework should ensure that they are familiar with this model, and use it as the basis for professional development planning, both for themselves and for the leaders that they support.
Individuals will, and should be encouraged to, map their own particular and unique route through the Framework for Educational Linguistics. The framework is not intended to be used in a linear way. There should be no distinct boundary between the sections of the framework and there may frequently be instances of overlap across different sections. Leaders will continually revisit aspects of their professional practice that need to be refreshed or further developed.
Professional learning activities
All linguistics roles share some common skills and attributes, particularly working with and influencing others to improve the learning experiences for all learners. However, at different stages in the linguistics journey the individual will have different sets of needs. The framework should help identify and design opportunities for those preparing for linguistics roles, those newly appointed, and those with substantial experience. It is crucial that appropriate learning opportunities are provided for leaders at all stages in this journey.
